Girls to Young Ladies, Inc began as an idea of founder, Reshone Flanders. Reshone is an energetic spiritual woman and a member of Hope to the World Church. She is a mother of two girls, and loves to work with youth. She worked in law enforcement for five years and completed college in 2006. Reshone felt this community was in need of an organization for young girls to turn to for support and guidance. The community girls group developed over a three year period. Reshone prayed for God's direction and also consulted with family and friends. During this time, Reshone's sister introuduced her to Terri. Terri was blessed with many talents that would be beneficial in the birth of G2YL (Girls to Young Ladies). Terri loved the idea and wanted to incorporate a summer reading program into the plan. Reshone and Terri worked hard to plan events, fundraisers, etc to begin the organization. As a strong believer in her faith and higher power, on October 26, 2006 Reshone Flanders decided that it was time to step out on that faith and introduce Girls to Young Ladies to the community. On that date, the organization began with five young girls and by February 2008, the membership numbers grew to 30 girls. On January 27, 2008, a board was created which consisted of Reshone Flanders, Terri Bailey, Melissa Ware, and Courtney Hicks. Today the organization continues to grow on blessings and support from the community. The membership continues to increase and positive behavior changes within these girls are showing from day to day as they transition into womanhood. |
